Peparing for the Philippine Festival in Nagoya 2010

The CPFA Staff and Volunteers went to the Nagoya International Center, Annex Hall to prepare the area for the 26th Philippine Festival in Nagoya. They transformed the Hall, and made it look and feel like the Philippines. Complete with little festival flags, posters and pictures. Everyone worked hard, and the result was beautiful.
The booths were set-up, and a few of the sponsors came and fixed their area, each one making their area appealing to the many Filipinos expected to arrive the next day.
Participants for the Chubu Queen and Princess presentation were also present, to rehearse their performances, they were ably directed by Ms. Marita Castaneda, CPFA President.
The CPFA Staff also made panels, highlighting the activities of CPFA, and showing the sponsors of the event, plus the raffle prizes that everyone is looking forward to winning on the day of the event. The panels turned out quite attractive and colorful, special thanks to CPFA Members, Ms. Manami Yamada and Mr. Yuuki Kobayashi.
The volunteers also worked hard in setting up the chairs, tables and boards. They were coordinated by Mr. Mitsumasa Taniguchi, CPFA Member.
Special thanks also goes out to the Ikebana International, for the beautiful flower arrangement for the event, they were contacted by Mrs. Linda Taki, CPFA Chairman, who also happens to be a member of Ikebana International.
The preparations were finished on time, if a little giri-giri. And the staff and volunteers went home to rest and prepare for the big event the following day.

Happy Mother's Day from CPFA

We just finished meeting the volunteers and participants for the Philippine Festival in Nagoya. There will be another meeting next week, May 16, 2010.
Today's meeting was quite timely, because the participants for the Chubu Queen and Princess came and we discussed what they will present at the Festival. I said timely, because the participants are Mothers and their Daughters. It was truly a Happy Mother's Day!

There were also student volunteers, and CPFA Staff. Everyone worked together, planning for the coming Festival.

Preparing for the Philippine Festival in Nagoya 2010

Members of CPFA have been conducting meetings in preparation for the 2010 Philippine Festival in Nagoya. Almost every weekend is spent on preparation and meetings. It is a tradition among the CPFA members to keep the month of May open for festival preparations.

There will be about 30 volunteers, and the CPFA members are thankful for them, and looking forward to their help and to working with them in the festival.
The Nagoya International Center, Annex Hall will be the center of all the activites. It will be transformed into the Philippines for the duration of the festival, and there will be a lot of activites going on.



Today, the members and officers got together for yet another meeting, and picture taking.

Tea Party (and Birthday!) at Riverside Consulting

Yesterday, members of CPFA met up to welcome Mr. and Mrs. Taki's family (Hiroe, Ron and Ki-chan) who were visiting from the US. Although because it was a regular work day, only a few people were there, still it was fun. We had cakes and onigiri (both quite yummy!)

The get-together was done for many reasons, among which is to welcome the family in their visit to Nagoya, and to introduce Kiara-chan, the newest family member, and also to celebrate those born in April, a little early, but since this was, perhaps, the only time we could get together, it was good to be able to celebrate, even in a small way.

CPFA has always made family and friends an important part of all its activities.

Evaluation of the 25th Anniversary of the CPFA / International Philippine Festival 2009

The recently concluded 25th International Philippine Festival held in the Nagoya International Center, was quite successful. One of the main activities was the Consular Services, held at the 4th floor. Consul Anne Hernandez along with personnel from the Philippine Consul-General in Osaka, went to Nagoya to conduct the Consular Services, in collaboration with the event organized by the Chubu Philippine Friendship Association. There were at least 300 people, around 200 of these were there to renew their passports. Passport renewal was the main purpose of the Consular Service this year, because of the new rule issued by the Philippine Government, that all Filipinos wishing to renew their passports must appear in person in the Consular Office in Osaka. This is because of the fact that the new Philippine passports are now equipped with a microchip, and requires fingerprinting for identification. The Consular Service held in Nagoya, in collaboration with the International Philippine Festival, was able to help many Filipinos needing to renew their passports, without having to go to Osaka.


Other main events during the Festival was the Opening Ceremony, headed by Mrs. Linda Taki (CPFA Chairman) and Ms. Marita Castaneda (CPFA President), followed by the giving of awards to people and institutions that have been helping CPFA throughout the years. The speeches given during the Opening Ceremony were inspiring. Ambassador Domingo L. Siazon, Jr. made special mention of CPFA Chairman, Mrs. Linda Taki's numerous contributions to the Filipino community in Nagoya and nearby areas. He mentioned that he has been observing Linda and her works, since from the start, almost 25 years ago, and he has seen her progress and the progress of CPFA. He was impressed with everything she and her organization have achieved achieved.

The awarding ceremony was also very informative because many people who were otherwise in the background throughout the years, were recognized and given thanks. This is a very important part of the 25th Anniversary celebration.

The entertainement part of the program was also both exciting and informative, with organizations and performances. A portion was dedicated showing the evolution of CPFA through the years, this was presented by CPFA President, Ms. Marita Castaneda. There was a jazz orchestra, Philippine dances, Japanese dances, singing and a dance party. Organizations like ICAN, RASA and many more, presented their groups and talked about what they do to help Filipinos in Japan and in the Philippines.

The whole event kept to the theme, blending of cultures, with Japanese and Philippine songs and dances. The participants were also a mix of Japanese and Filipinos, and both enjoyed the many activities, the dancing and the raffle draw.

It should also be noted that the participating volunteers, both Filipinos and Japanese, were very helpful and without them, the event would not have succeeded. This is also part of CPFA's goal, that of fostering the spirit of volunteerism in all its projects. For 25 years, CPFA made the International Philippine Festival possible with the help of the many volunteers, and hopefully their spirit of volunteerism will continue even in the years to come.

This year's event was truly exciting and memorable, befitting 25 years of the Chubu Philippne Friendship Association's service to the Filipinos and, in some cases, also to the Japanese, in Nagoya.
